Wheels keep turning all day long Phones keep ringing, something’s wrong People calling, needing help Never really think about myself Air Force days, radios and calls at night Trying to keep the systems right Bus routes starting with the rising sun Another long day has already begun But then I pull up to the curb And everything inside me slows Front door opens, warm light shining That feeling gets me every time I’m home And there you are on the couch Like peace somehow learned how to speak One quick hug before I’m moving But those moments carry me through the week אֵשֶׁת־חַיִל מִי יִמְצָא וְרָחֹק מִפְּנִינִים מִכְרָהּ¹ *Eshet chayil mi yimtza, ve'rachok mipninim michrah.* [A woman of valor, who can find? Her worth is far beyond pearls.] Because this home is my safe place You and her are my whole world After all the noise and pressure It’s the grounding calm within the storm Six thirty dinner on the table Just the three of us sitting there Talking through the little moments Simple life but I wouldn’t trade it anywhere וַתִּתֵּן טֶרֶף לְבֵיתָהּ וְחֹק לְנַעֲרֹתֶיהָ² *Vatiten teref l'veitah, v'chok l'na'aroteha.* [She provides sustenance for her household and a portion for those in her care.] And our daughter sitting across from me Telling us about her day Working twice as hard as most do Still somehow kinder anyway Sometimes I look around that table And I wonder what I did To deserve these quiet moments And the life we somehow live Wednesday nights we steal a little time A quiet dinner, just the two of us Nothing fancy, just a private moment Filling the cup for each of us I know I’m not always good with feelings Not the kind that come out easy in words Most days I just keep moving forward Solving problems, carrying the world And I’m sure there are moments you wonder If I notice all the things you do But even when I don’t know how to say it Every quiet part of me is grateful for you Then the phone rings, keys are moving Another call I have to take Another person needing something Another problem wide awake Hatzalah racing through the darkness Shomrim trying to hold the line School buses before the sunrise Seems like everybody needs my time But even when I’m out there running Part of me stays back at home Thinking about the two who wait there And knowing I’m not alone בָּטַח בָּהּ לֵב בַּעְלָהּ וְשָׁלָל לֹא יֶחְסָר³ *Batach bah lev ba'alah, v'shalal lo yechsar.* [The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he shall lack no gain.] Because later when the house gets quiet And finally the whole day ends Sitting there beside my wife again Feels like breathing once again No big speeches, no big moments No dramatic movie scene Just her presence there beside me And the peace that that can bring Maybe that’s why home feels sacred Maybe that’s why these moments matter Because life can pull in every direction And still this is what I’m chasing after Not the titles or accomplishments Not the rank or praise or fame Just coming home to my family And hearing them call my name So tomorrow morning I’ll get moving Back to carrying what I can But tonight I’m sitting here thankful For the life Hashem placed in my hands אֵשֶׁת־חַיִל מִי יִמְצָא?¹ *Eshet chayil mi yimtza?* [Who can find a woman of valor?] I found mine right here at home. --- ### Sources ¹ Proverbs 31:10 ² Proverbs 31:15 ³ Proverbs 31:11
